The town's location just within the north-easternmost tip of the Brecon Beacons National Park offers visitors stunning scenery and a wealth of outdoor activities, including the beautiful Wye Valley and the Black Mountains.

The annual Hay Festival, with its party atmosphere, provides an eclectic mix of literature, comedy, music and current affairs within its cosmopolitan programme. The Festival attracts around 80,000 visitors over ten days.
